Wasabi - The Best!

Wasabi, the movie. Simply funny!

PS. Watch out for the end of the clip. The way she pumps it is kinda lol. =)

Subtitles later if anyone really really wants it. Too lazy for now. =p

A Typical Day At Pbl (Or was that Atypical?)

"Ah, so what? He's going to die sooner or later!"

"Erm, statistically speaking, you're wrong. He has a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of living forever."

"Yeah. Right. So you're going to live forever?"

"Me? Well, I'm going to live forever or die trying."

Yuki + Icky

What's 6 degrees of seperation when it's 6 degrees of celcius now?

Wait, it just dropped to 3.

Maybe I'll get to see the 1st snowfall? =p

EDIT: Somehow I get reminded by what I heard in class - "For God's sake, if you're going to donate your body to science, at least get your act together and lose those fats!"

People with fatty layers as thick as my entire ARM are just to slick to handle. Everything gets so slippery and you just have to watch where and how your standing is.

Literally.

PS. I think it resembles cooled down Western style cheap chinese food. The kind which is very "nutritious". Or at least that's the general consensus. =p

1 + 1 = 2, 2+ 2 = 4, ... What comes next?

Well, today's a cold cold day. As exemplified by my friend whose nick is cccccolddddd

Yeah.

And so, since my mind is on brainfreeze, (as are my fingers, except that they are on fingerfreeze), let me share with you some stories with more substance than the previous posts.

Firstly, heard of the phrase that "the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts"? Mathematically, if a, b and c are the parts, a+b+c > a+b+c.

Yup, math. Very substanceful indeed!

And secondly, a picture of me was taken. A picture that was used to apply for the Working With Children thing. A picture that looks like I'm some ex-convict with a grudge against the world. The kind whose idea of "hello" is "what's your problem, punk?"

No wonder kids just gurgle with delight when they see me.

Mmhmm.

Trick or What?

Why am I here? I should be sleeping. :(

But if anyone out there is interested, this is THE best magic trick! Like seriously! Even if you hate magic tricks, watch it. =)

Random Post

Well, this could be the 3rd or the 1st.

Depending on what you want as a reaction. "3rd strike, you're out!" and all that, you know?

Don't say I didn't warn you.

Unless you scroll from up to down, which makes this the only warning you'll get.

Actually even if you scroll from bottom to top I guess this is STILL the only warning you'll get.

Oh well. Just consider this the "fine print" section then. =p

Another Random Post

Yup, another one.

Random Post

Cold temperature can slow growth rates but not to any clinically significant degree (pun intended).

BRR! Can you believe it? This was on a medical page! Doctors really still retain a shred of humour! Well, I guess they do have their own versions of humors, as do everyone else. Like this kind of humor, and that kind of humor. Even so, you'd wonder why not everybody is not doubly humerous..

I think I'm steering too far off. Somebody care to give me a hand? (Don't mind that I've already got 2 of my own)

Conspiracy Theories

Health practice is really abbreviated as GG, not HP as they want you to believe. Seriously, who would name a course after the handphone? That sounds too much like some course offered to noobs at a university set up by Nokia or Sony Ericsson or whichever mobile phone maker rocks your boat.

It does sound better than Handphones 101: The Idiots' Guide to Modern Technology.

But anyway, since I'm so kind, I'll just give GG the boot and kindly ask it to go take a hike.

Hilton's Law

Nope, it's not saying that you should be a total bimbo and get famous for appearing in your very own "home video"!

It just means that if you have a really bad shoulder muscle pain, dislocate it hard enough to sever the axillary nerve. Hey, no pain no gain!

Incidentally there are at least 2 Paris Hiltons! I'm not kidding! Go on, take a look! [Don't worry, nothing "home video" here =p]

Paris Hilton

PS. This is meant as a joke. Self-mutilation is considered criminal in most countries, and mostly regarded as "wrong" practically everywhere else. Please, don't be an idiot!

Shorts

Shorts:
1. Short film or story
2. Apparel you wear over the lower limbs as a sign of modesty, protection against the elements, or just because

3 bimbos were at the local shopping centre one day and walked past a bedding store.

As if on cue, all 3 look at each other and scream hysterically, "Pillow fight!"

When 2 bone warriors from rival gangs just happened to pop into the same bar to have a pint, guess what happened?

Osteophyte!

Enraged, Bone Man [Boner just sounds ... wrong] screamed at the thief, "Justice will prevail criminal! Take this! Osteoblast!"

One day, a surfer happened upon a blog entry. Not in the ocean, but in the electronic ocean of 1s and 0s. After reading it, the cybersurfer was hyperventilating with reliable witness reports stating that sentences like "What??" and "Rubbish!" were heard. Advanced digital non-analogue techniques revealed part of the entry (reproduced below:)

Everybody has a reaction to shorts. Either they liked it a lot, hated it or just didn't care since the short was either lame, nonsensical, unrelated, uncomfortable, looked idiotic or caused a wedgie. But, there is universal agreement that nobody likes a person with a short fuse, especially if the fuse leads to something interesting like black bowling balls or red sticks. Except perhaps for the person who lit the fuse in the first place.

There is something else too.

Something that...

...at the moment escapes my memory's feeble clutches.

Goodbye, we'll miss you something else.

Short Shots

Shh, Billie's coming in! Get ready, we're going to give him some acute lead poisoning!

Attention Ducky: You Are Being Charged Under Suspicion of Inciting Occurences of Blog Tags! Resistance is Futile!

Ducky must think I'm pretty free to do this. That studies aren't weighing down on me. That I've some free time to splurge on this thing.

Well I guess he's right since here it is!

The Rules:

1. Put your music player on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question even if it doesn't make sense.
4. Comment on it.
5. Tag 5 people.

Well, since I don't have a music player (a physical one that I use regularly), does Winamp count? The one that is currently playing like just one album. Wahahas!

Maybe not.

So here goes, library on..sh..shu..[loading please wait]...shuff...[loading]..shuff..[I SAID PLEASE WAIT]... ... ... ...[complete!] ... shuffle!

1) How are you feeling today?
There She Goes - Sixpence None the Richer
Well, if by "she" it means "the exam", then yeah. There she goes.

Whether up or down only time (and God, and the examiners) will tell.

2) Will you get far in life?
Redefine - Incubus
Haha, yeah. Please redefine the question! =p

3) What's your best friend's theme song?
Words - Beyonce
Hmm, since when did this thing appear on my computer? I don't even know how it sounds like! Oh well, there's my best friend's grand entrance for you folks..

4) What is the story of your life?
听海 - 张惠妹
[How does this go again?]

Hmm, now that I've found the lyrics >.<>

5) What was high school like?
Redefine - Incubus
Eh, my library is not that small leh! LOLZ! Well it did redefine my goals in life.

6) How can you get ahead with life?
Words - Boyzone
Yeah, words are important. That's why they teach Effective Communication Skills and the Theory of Communication in school. (Don't forget the CAPITAL LETTERS!) And yes, that's why there is the saying that more than half the population of India is comprised of lawmakers and lawyers.

7) What's the best thing about your friends?
Ji Ba Pan - Unknown
Wahaha! This is classic. Yes, it's good to have friends who have ji ba pan ($1 million)! Buy a plane, tour the world and jiak spaghetti! =D

8) Describe your grandparents.
The Cage - Travis
Hmm. They don't really cage anybody. Nor are they caged (what, you think they're lions?). Maybe they did some time in the cage? You know, like the Mixed Martial Arts cage fights! That would be like way cool! (Except that MMA didn't really come about till the past decade or so :S).

9) How's your life going?
Truth No.2 - Dixie Chicks
Truthfully? My life is going ahead like a number 2. Go figure.

10) What will be played at my funeral?
IMF Goodie Bag - Mrbrownshow
Hmm. Sweet!

11) Will you have a happy life?
Fascinating Rhythm - Jamie Cullum
Yup, I'll live the proverbial happily ever after if only I could tap into the supranormal and find my fascinating rhythm. Anyone got an extra Pick of Destiny?

12) What do your friends really think of you?
Fly Away - Lenny Kravitz
Oh ho! So that's what they really think! Maybe I should get a job as Santa. Or his helper. You know, the one who goes "I know who's been naughty and who's been nice."

13) Do people secretly lust after you?
Respect - Train
Hmmm, secretly, respectfully lust after me? No wonder I havn't been like jumped on and [censored]
and [censored] and [censored] like a jackrabbit. I suppose I should just picture these respectfully lustful people as really, really distastefully, abominably, pukingly ugly and be thankful.

14) How can you make yourself happy?
Death of a Martian - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Well. Find me a Martian and I'll willingly do the autopsy!

15) Will you ever have children?
Waterfalls - TLC
This. Is. Different? Hahas. It even beats Jay Chou's song where he goes "The rain falls the whole night//My love juice comes out like rain"! We are talking of torrents of waterfalls man! At least I'll be that much closer to having children compared to some poor British folk.

16) What song would you strip to?
不懂 - 林俊杰
Hehe, yup that's right. I wouldn't know! (不懂 = don't know)

17) What does your mom think of you?
Your Heart Is Safe With Me - LFO
Wow, thanks!

18) What is your deep, dark secret?
Taxi (Ave Maria) - John Murphy
YES! I confess, I confess! I sing Ave Maria really piously while driving a cab (as my secret part-time job) with zombies running after me in a rage!

19) What is your enemy's theme song?
Key To My Life - Boyzone
Hmm. I guess it's like Judas' gospel. Without me, there is no enemy! LOL!

20) What's your personality like?
God Knows the Way - Don Moen
Not exactly there yet in terms of actions but yeah, God knows the way.

21) What will be played at your wedding?
Wish I Could - Lene Marlin
Wish I could? Do what? Proceed onto honeymoon now? Live happily ever after? Not pay for the wedding expenses?

Well, here's the part where I tag people. But since I'm the kind of person who's opposed to spam, chain mails and all that, I tag the first 5 people who read this. You know who you are!

PS. Don't forget, I know who's been naughty and who's been nice! =p

PPS. Not all resistance is futile. In fact, resistance is diagnostic in some cases.

Timetable's Out

Yeah, and it has totally nothing to do with School's Out! Or maybe a bit, since I do know when school is officially out. =p

Incidentally, the timing for PRAC says "All day hours".

Poor us, having to do pracs the WHOLE DAY! :(

Diamonds are forever

But so is mercury poisoning.

And aspirin (only if you're a platelet).

Question:

Statistically speaking, there are more unbelievers than there are believers in Christ.

And of those who believe there are less who choose to accept Him as savior and king.

So, the devil wins more souls than heaven.

How does God win the war again? :(

Thursday, May 01, 2008

so..

So the dog is Man's best friend.

Is the polyglot Woman's best friend? Or does that honour go to lumps of carbon?

Good thing I'm not obese. This sort of stress could trigger Gaisböck polycythemia.

Hungry and sleepy should be studying but what am I doing?

On another note, there's just so many variants of BLATANT spam to "pleasure her all night" or "be a man". And that's not the "do the right thing" sort!

I mean, come on! Whoever in their right mind sends you an email that says "Hey [insert entire email username here] enlarge your man-thing/scare her with your enormous shlong"?! Ok, if your email was something like thecoolestguyintheworld@whatevermail.com you might get a kick out of it the first few times [you egoist!] but if it's ramos79@everydaymail.com it just sounds silly.

Downright silly.

That'd be like shooting off a mail to Bill Gates with a subject that screams "Hey BillGates55". Hardly the sort of thing a business proposal needs.

BUT!

But I like the way the try to jumble up the letters of the words.

Viagra
Ivagra
Vagira
Vigaar
Giavra

Wow! 600 different combinations to play around with (and look silly doing it!)

Way cool =)

EDIT: Now there's this new one! "Get a [professional-sized] pecker!"

Oh my goodness! Hahas! So do they come in sizes? Professionally large pecker, professionally small pecker, wood pecker..

Just wondering, do they come packaged and are batteries included? =p

Hot As Ice

You know the wonderful feeling you get when you're mountain climbing? Yes, that lovely feeling that no worries, it's all good.

Unfortunately that's not really what's happening if you happen to be at 12,000 feet above sea level. That's more like the hypoxia-induced euphoria that precedes another unfortunate clinical syndrome - death.

Or if you're a perverted idiot that's the hypoxia-induced euphoria you get before you strangle yourself to death.

Not much different really, just a change in scenery. You know, the usual stuff, like "Nature" scenery followed by a really bleak white cold nothingness and then the afterlife in the first compared to "Whereever you plan on strangling yourself" and "horned demons" and "plenty of everlasting suffering" scenery in the latter.

And yes, just another random thing - reminds me of what a friend put on his msn nick - "Are you hot...as ice?"

What a clever oxymoron.

I Know Something

Do you know something?

Actually, it's about somebody in your life.

To be more precise, it's about the person who gave birth to you.

You see, that person, the one who gave birth to you, she's your mother.

It's the truth!

Let's Be Inclusive

The thing about exclusivity is that it only seems attractive if you are within the group. If you are deemed "not good enough" or "not exclusive enough" to gain admittance within the "in" group, somehow it's suddenly not a good thing.

But then again, it could have always been a bad thing whether or not you made their mark.

What Doesn't Kill You..

What doesn't kill you might not make you stronger.

It might just be waiting to kill you later on.

At least that's what happens with thrombosis and thromboembolism.

At any rate, the person would be toast. Or was that ptosed?

Beware What You Wish For

Just read an article about how a government wanted to achieve a situation with zero-dependence on foreign labour. It just reminds me of something in Joe Heller's awesome book Catch-22. In it, the main character Yossarian (yes, the Assyrian Supraman, not Super-man) exclaims in exasperation that he doesn't want what he wants.

Silly sounding, but makes sense in a way.

How many times have you ever regretted wanting something so badly but it turned out to be either a disappointment, unattainable or just plain bad for you? I guess that's what Yossarian was driving at (instead of being just mad =p).

Beware indeed!

Good News and Bad News

There was a tombstone at the cemetery, and on it was carved a most sorrowful poem about how much the husband missed his late wife. In it, he promised to wait for her, no matter how long or how hard it would be.

However, on right of the tombstone was the husband's grave. On it too, was a tombstone.

It was dated one year after the wife's date of death.

Say NO To Bacteria!

Isn't it ironic the stuff that helps in reproduction (more specifically the thing that causes things to rise to the occasion) is also the same thing that might kill you?

Or maybe it's not that ironic after all.

Mmm

"Hey Loiuse, what were you discussing about with him just now?" asked Kebob.

"Oh, we were just talking about some world politics and the mindlessness of the MAD policy," replied Loiuse.

"MAD? What's that?"

"That's just an acronym for mutually assured destruction. It's a nuclear deterrent policy, where both sides have nuclear warheads pointed on all the important areas and structures of the opposite side. In case one side decides to be rash about it and starts launching it's nukes, the other side would retaliate with equally lethal power. Basically it relies on the premise that each side wouldn't want a nuclear wasteland as their backyard."

"That's mad!"

"Sheesh, Kebob! Of course it's MAD! What do you think I was blabbering about, Macs?"

"Geez, Louise! No need to get all fired up over it."

The Heart Doesn't Suck!

"Hey, you suck!" cried out Brain.

"I certainly do not, you ball of noodle-y worms! Contrary to popular belief, I don't suck. That's the job of the twins over there," huffed Heart.

"Hmph, we'd appreciate if you leave us out of this! We suck just to keep you alive you know!" returned the Lung twins in unison without so much as a crackle...

Saturday, April 05, 2008

Please read disclaimer at the end of the article first as this is a read-at-your-own-risk article with a really ridiculously long title that's so -_-"

Contrary to common belief, it's not love that keeps us alive.

In fact, it's not even money, or any variant of such a reward system (well, maybe not all variants - see below).

What then is it?

Well, C3, 4, 5 keeps us alive.

To be specific, the C3 to C5 ventral rami which supply the phrenic nerve, which is the only source of innervation to the diaphragm, which is the only reliable muscle that keeps us breathing, which in all probability is the thing that keeps all of us alive.

As for the variant of rewards systems, I guess the reward of being continually alive drives us to continue living. Although that isn't really the main reason why we are alive.

P.S. For smart-alecks out there who point out to the artificial lung as a mode of keeping us alive, please realise that you are a smart-aleck. If that fails, it is imperative that you understand that the artificial lung is after all, artificial; also, only a select handful of people in this world have the chance to actually experience it. So, if you truly still believe that artificial lungs keep us alive, maybe you should consider quitting your job as a smart-aleck, and apply for a position that involves breathing through a respirator.

Disclaimer: No animals nor smart-alecks were directly hurt during the production of this comedic article. All characters are not a product of fiction, and any similiarities with real-life person or persons or body parts are not due to coincidence and can be verified through various sources [please look them up yourself, what, did you think I was your personal secretary? what a Pudge you are!] The author shall not be liable for any consequences of reading this article, so read it at your own risk!

Of Circles and Squares

I'm sorry to all the people who have been wondering where I am for the past month. The fact is that there was some problem with getting an Internet connection that was stable, but now everything has been sorted out and here I am again!

Hopefully with a greater passion to blog. Or not, depending on how things turn out. Hahas..I guess I am another inconstant blogger. :O Surprise, surprise..

Anyway..

The topic of the day is circles. Like those round-ish things you see when a plate is presented to you, or like those 7 circle-ish things in this sentence. Permit me to digress, if you will. Circles are a really big thing in life. You have the circle of life, which many societies believe in. There are the carbon and nitrogen (among others) cycles, which is almost universally accepted by those who know their science well. The full moon, which is a circle, holds special place in Chinese and Western mythologies. So it is no small surprise when circles are incorporated into martial arts, both Eastern and Western. There are circles in the principles of sticky hands in Wing Chun, circles traced by the hands of an opponent being brought down by Aikido practitioners, arc-ing circles made by kicks in Capoeira (indeed, there's even a half moon kick!). Heck, even boxing has rudimentary half circles in their uppercuts and when ducking.

Well the thing that struck me about circles today is that it can be of any size. Of course, it seems quite obvious now that I say it out but you know sometimes how certain things become so basic that they do not consciously register in your mind? (Yeah, like grammar stuff..past participles and the like) But as the sensei said, "He's got long arms, it's perfect for you to train the big circles!" I guess what he wanted to drive in was that one should always start from the basics and work their way up, not directly jump to the end. At least, that's what taichi masters usually espouse. And yes, it supposedly takes a person practically their whole life to master taichi techniques. Why else do you think all those people learning taichi usually start off doing motions so slowly? Yes, definitely speed and smaller circles are much more economical and effective, but I guess sometimes you just need to slow down, to take in the essence of things. A small flaw introduced to a beginner might not look too obvious (especially since everything isn't really tip top anyway), but once firmly set in and allowed to proceed, it is greatly magnified later on.

One thing at a time, and build on from there. Or as ancient master used to say in his long lost teachings.. .. .. hmmm, actually there's a reason why his teachings are long lost.

And about sqaures.

There was some significant point about squares, but somehow it just slipped the author's mind a minute ago. If it ever comes back, or is significant, you'll be the first to know. =p

Another Silly Post That Will Leave You Regretting Spending 5 Minutes of Your Life On But Can't Do Anything About Since Time Flows Forward Only

Looking around, the boy found an empty seat. During this period in time, mamak stalls were usually crowded like this, so he was quite glad to find somewhere to sit. After ordering his usual (plain old roti with dhal and a cup of milo dinosaur - the perfect meal to clog up your arteries) he glanced around. A particular gang of people huddled around the corner table caught his eye, especially the one who looked like he was in control. Covered with various twisting, grotesque tattoos, he probably was some gangster leader - someone you never trifled with. Nor stared at too long, he realised dismally as the leader noticed him staring. Turning round, the walking hunk of art-covered muscle started approaching the boy.

Please, sir, please! I wasn't looking for a fight, thought the boy. His legs felt like jelly.

"What's your problem punk?!" yelled the smooth-skinned thug at the cowering boy.

"Pimples."

Some Legends Are Meant to Die?

:(

But look at the detail! The processing power required! One Snake mustache in MGS4 has the same number of polygons as a whole soldier in MGS3!

I WANT I WANT I WANT!

Oh well. Students are not meant to play too much. :(

PS. How can the GAYEST character in the entire MGS series return as such a cool ninja?! -_-"

21 (which is to say, half of the answer to life, the universe, and everything!)

So, I'm "as adult as (I) can be".

Legally speaking of course. But it's good.

Went to celebrate misskong's pre-birthday party (yeah, a bit ironic that it was on THIS particular day of all days). A green-themed party, nice food and good friends. Good thing it didn't rain on the important moments. =p

Rushed off to cell group's celebration after that. Sort of an end of year celebration thing. Had some more food (supermarket dinner really but still smashing good =p), enjoyed a nice chocolate-y cake (happy belated and pre-birthday to all the other november babies!), watched some interesting board game plays, played some cards and helped to remove a "splinter" which was really a strand of really short hair -_-". And yes, June is one "focused" person. The way she just ploughs on and on without heed to the screams of pain. =p

Rushed back to receive a Brunetti's cake and a tshirt from ggl. (Sorry was too late to make it before midnight ><) Which was nice considering presents are really rare (always exams or holidays). Thanks! =)

Ok, ciaoz. Going home soon! Yippee!

Edit: Thanks misskong for your present! Now I can count down the days more accurately and easily! =p

End of Pharmacy As We Know It?

Now THIS is the stuff that young boys with fertile imaginations and the health sector have in common!

ZAP! And you're free of that pesky virus..

Wonder if it will work by the time the workforce is hiring me.

[That's it! Rest time is OVER! RAWR!]

Possession

“What is it? My Dear?”

“Ah, how can we bear it?”

“Bear what?”

“This. For so short a time. How can we sleep this time away?”

“We can be quiet together and pretend—since it is only the beginning—that we have all the time in the world.”

“And everyday we shall have less. And then none.”

“Would you rather, therefore, have had nothing at all?”

“No. This is where I have always been coming to. Since my time began. And when I go away from here, this will be the mid-point, to which everything ran, before, and from which everything will run. But now, my love, we are here, we are now, and those other times are running elsewhere.”

Blow Wind Blow

The wind just blew the advertising board clean off a tram. The struts holding it in place went all over the place and possibly cut one bystander. The glass panel of a cafe was nearly shattered by the impact.

And the tram moved on, as always.

Welcome Is Sleep, Welcome Still the Time to Sleep

Hoooo! Just had a nice bout of insomnia.

And surprisingly I feel ok. Must be a sign to go church. =p

Where is the aircond when you need it?

First the weather goes haywire, now the cooling system? :S

This morning it was freezing indoors while hot outside [yeah, a fire even broke out on some street], now it's just hot outside and indoors.

Wait till tonight. It'll be freezing inside and out. Hahas..

ringringringring

Interesting. My first spam comment. Should I approve or reject it? Or just leave it to rot in my inbox?

On another note, the empower ministry thing was nice, and unsettling in a way. Nice to see that most of them enjoyed the meal (yeah, there was this guy that kept going on and on about how the chicken wasn't "natural" like what his wife got for him long ago - she went direct to the slaughterhouse to get them - but he just kept asking for more chicken! =p), and unsettling to see a 14 year old girl and her boyfriend among the homeless. Also, the fact that I couldn't quite get common ground to chat about with some of them was quite bad. Interestingly, the "chicken" guy was sitting on my right, which contrasted his parrot-y personality with the very quiet guy on my left.

Oh well..

Time for bed. Been doing stuff related to this since I woke up in the morning til now. =p Good night world!

Kungfu fighting..

Poise! WONDERFUL!

Translation of Final Battle Report

Due to user demand, FBR has been finally translated.

"Red, swollen knuckles of both hands, with a slight tinge of pain.

Minor abrasions on knuckles and right elbow, as well as left leg.

Sore back of upper arms.

Sore back.

Feeling wonderful.

Treat and enjoy, as well as take certain measures to protect skin."

=p

Basically a rundown of the after effects of boxing without gloves.

PS. If you're reading this yeowza, pain was mainly trunk muscle aches. Surprisingly. Although for that one night I did have this enormous hammerfist. =D

What does the future hold?

Geriatrics is depressing.

No wonder those in the health services and the elderly are at increased risk of depression. (Actually, the elderly will be at greater risk of dementia than depression in a few years time.)

Imagine, for the vast majority of people, the last few years of life (no matter when you die) will probably be wrought with a host of disabilities and impairments. And the only thing you can do for now is to delay the onset of the symptoms so that they are compressed within a shorter time frame.

Old folks without family support would probably end up in residential aged care centres, places that are like hostels. Imagine that! Living in a hostel for the rest of your twilight life! Curfew after a certain time, meals at fixed times at the canteen, no wandering out without supervision, no customisation of rooms, no more than 12 books in the room etc. There's a host lot more of restrictions believe me. Heck, even the old hall was better than this! At least you get lots of friends, plenty of jacking sessions (thanks CY for all the fun you provided =p), freedom to eat what you like whenever whereever you like (provided you're willing to go out and splurge a little..meaning if you're not YTH wahaha).

By the age of 80, $5000 is spent on average per elderly person per year. And that's just hospital costs alone! About a quarter of that amount is spent in addition for medication.

And there's this thing about frailty. A case of "reduced redundancy". Well, sounds good when you put it that way, but it just means your body is less equipped to upkeep itself properly. Anything from dehydration to a slight bout of flu would be enough to push you over the edge, to the point where you can't even move around on your own.

And yeah, although it might seem like a wonderful fantasy where a nurse helps to bathe you and feed you, I don't think it would seem all that fun when it has to be done everyday, for the rest of your life. No sirree..

And supposedly, there's some pros if you manage to transition from young and pimply to old and wrinkly. Please do tell me what they are if you do find out.

I'll be back! Said somebody..

I'm back!

Yup.

15 hours of sleep yesterday! YAY! Maybe I'm halfway back in terms of paying off my sleep debt. =p

Seagulls were blown off course at the port on sunday. By the big winds. And the silly things just tried again and again. Kinda like playing frisbee with susan and friends. =p

Anyway. Kidneys galore now. Anat yesterday, physiology today. Reminds me of an article I read. Some local food critic came up with a book about the 100 things you should eat before you die. And kidneys was one of them. The reason being the "taste of urea". Whatever. Haha..imagine, it' s like going to the toilet and having a taste of the liquid you pass out. Ok, gross.

So gross I'll sign off now. Haha..take care..especially you ducky! [Yeah, this one's for you]

Absence makes the heart grow fond

Blog.

Blog.

Dear, dear blog.

This could sound like a Dear John letter.

But it's not.

For one thing, this is a blog, and I havn't really given it a name yet. Maybe World enough, and time, if you're being particularly fussy about this. Then it'd be a Dear World enough, and time letter. Weird.

And, I don't really fancy Johns, if you get my drift.

So.

Dear blog,

Sorry for being away for so long. Assignment rushing and pbl rushing and lack of adrenaline rushing have been my new partners for now. No more of that blog rushing for now I'm afraid. I hope you understand. And if you're feeling lonely, and there's so many of my friends that drop by occasionally to bug you to find out if there's anything new, please pass them a message from me: "Hey guys, welcome! I'm not in at the moment, but at the beep please contact me here."

Take care.

xoxo

Or something like that. Never liked writing letters anyway. =p

I'm still alive you know.

Just that I'm uncontactable. For the most part. To most people.

Reminds me of how Yossarian told his family and friends that he was assigned to a long and dangerous flying mission during WWII and that he might not make it out alive..just so he could avoid writing letters back home. :S

Not that I'm doing that.

Or will do that.

Sounds familiar?

Would a friend do that? Would a friend tell you, "Hey, 'If you dont send this to everyone on ur list, U will lose the person u love.'"?

Ditto to those about "forward this or your parents are dead" or "forward this or your love live is history" or whatever stuff that's like that.

Exams!

PBL is cancelled!

Wow!

Check it out here! =)

PS.! Apostrophes have escaped! Help! !!!

If God is for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:28-31

Predestination.

What is a destination? It is the end point of a journey. Many times people have asked, does the means justify the ends? How about the other way around? Does the ends justify the means? But that's not really what I want to delve into right now.

What I want to ask is this: Is the ends the means?

And so, is the destination the journey?

Clearly that is not so.

Pre- is a suffix that just gives the meaning of "before". Like prehistoric, the era before recorded history. Like predate, the time before that particular date. Like predestination, knowing what happens in the end before it happens.

So, predestination is not fate. It is not a fixed timeline, where what we are bound to do has been dictated by God or anybody else.

Ie. God willing or not, what we do or do not is solely our responsibility. Our decision. Our action. (Or inaction). In essence, we have free will, and with that privilege entails responsibility for what we do or do not do with it.

So we are not bound by fate. Partial answer to my questions earlier on.

Shall wait till two weeks later. Hopefully Pastor Tim will finally move on and cover Romans 9.

PS. What a powerful idea right? "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Ultimately, victory lies with God, and so victory lies with those who are with God. Those who love God. Who fear God. Who are heirs of God. Cool!

PPS. "What if your father lived forever? What if he never grew old, never weakened, but instead grew stronger with every passing day? What would you do for him? What would be your obligations?
Assume your obligation as His rightful heir and accept your inheritance."

WOW! That's what our obligations are? Accept our inheritance? Sign me up. =)

Looking through the VJC homepage, particularly the teacher's day celebration.

And I catch myself wondering. Where's Mrs. Chan?

And then I remember.

SWOT!

Nope, that's not the sound the book makes when it connects with the fly you were trying to "show the path out of this abysmal world".

Wikipedia has this to say about swot.

Which isn't quite right.

Wiktionary on the other hand, has this to say about swot.

Not too bad, close to what SWOT vacation is. What's more, it's backed up by Merriam-Webster.

Or you could always believe what san says.

But who cares? Don't let the words get in the way. It's a holiday! Yay! =)

Easy as ABCD

Heard of F.E.A.R. ?

Should try P.A.N.I.C.S. It's hilarious! =p Just four short clips, and you'll seriously laugh your behind off. =)

Go here to download.

And why did that come up?

Because. It. Is. Hilarious.

And. Because. I. Am. Insomniac. Again.

When management of high blood pressure through lifestyle modifications (eg. diet, exercise, getting enough sleep), administration of the ABCDs should be considered.

ACE inhibitors/ACE receptor antagonists.
Beta blockers.
Calcium channel blockers.
Diuretics.

Ergo, if insomnia is not overcome by attempts to adhere to a strict timetable of waking and sleeping, should the next step be chemical in nature?

Free Will?

Romans 9:15-23

Can somebody please explain these verses to me?

God, as the creator of all things, certainly possesses the right to act as He wishes, including softening or hardening some of us, or raising some people up in a manner so that He can manifest His glory.

However, does this in fact show pre-destination? A sense that we are bound by what some have termed fate, which in these passages is illustrated by the fact that we are brought up in ways that God wills. If we are so bound by fate, it would mean an exclusion of the existence of free will. That no matter what we decide, whether by our volition, or to test God/circumstances/these verses, we are headed down a path that is fixed. In fact it could be argued that in that case you can't really blame sinners, because they were fated to sin. Like the Pharoah who had his heart hardened by God, does this mean that it's "not his (Pharoah's) fault"? After all, God did harden his heart.

And if God did raise some people up to sin, does that make Him a cruel God? How can this be reconciled with the fact that God is a just and good God? (Yup, I'm still holding on to the belief that God is good.) It IS definitely quite fearful if God is not a good God. Just take a look at Ergo Proxy. The PROXIES, believed by the people to be Gods, were not quite benevolent nor good. Ophelia PROXY slaughtered the whole city just because she wasn't accepted by its people; Senekisu PROXY was insane and let the survivors of her city be stuck in a meaningless war against androids before slaughtering them all; Proxy 1 who decimated most of the other cities by launching ICBMs just so he could take revenge on the original humans, that race which created the PROXIES. Yet that is not a true parallel, for after all PROXIES were not Gods, nor were the original humans Gods themselves. Steps could be taken, rational thought called upon to devise ways to escape from their fate (although the future was quite bleak). If God were to be cruel, there is NOTHING that we can do to escape or take revenge.

But anyway, can somebody just explain those verses? I'd just want to know how they can be reconciled to my beliefs that God is good, and that we have free will to forge our future.

On a completely random note, does anybody know of any jobs that I can take for just ONE week? Specifically the 2nd week of June, since I'm free and most other people are busy with their exams. If there is could you tell me ASAP? I need to apply for my working visa, since it'll be worthless until next winter and totally not worth the price if I can't get a job for this period. Thanks!

Ergo Proxy Bo Liao Stuff

The supposedly immortal Amrita cells of PROXIES are actually still considered biologically immortal. Although susceptible to FP rays, they still do not obey the Hayflick limit and can thus divide and survive forever through those clonal progenies. And, according to clues within the show, they have lived for far too long.

But if they do not obey the Hayflick limit, and are obviously differentiated cells, does that mean the PROXIES are lumps of sentient cancer tumors? =p

Round and round the mulberry bush..

Circles.

We humans have always been fascinated with it.

Consider the wheel.

Consider the Yin Yang sign.

Consider the circular movements and philosophy of many martial arts.

Consider the Carbon cycle.

Consider the Circle of Life.

All ideas connected with the circle is probably born out of a want or need to negate the effects of change. To show that although things change, they can and will finally go back to what and where they used to be. That not everything leads to an end. That there would be some sort of continuity. That will not be some sort of finality.

The wheel makes a revolution and the same point then comes into contact with the road again.

The Yin Yang speaks of how completeness is a circle.

The circular movements attempt to deflect and/or reduce the impact and still be able to return to a suitable position.

The carbon cycle shows how a single carbon atom can be traced in its path involving various forms and end up back as the initial form it was in.

The circle of life seeks to demonstrate how life and death and cyclical, the living live and then die, nourishing the living.

But in life there is no real circle of life is there? At least individually. A person is born. He eats. He sleeps. He grows. He meets his love of his life. They have many experiences together. They grow old together, rich in those memories and experiences. They die.

And there is no cycle in there.

After all, every story has its ending. Even the greatest love stories must come to an end, however dramatic, however lovely, however touching it is.

I just hope that the end signifies a new beginning for us. A beginning of our eternal place in heaven with God. Maybe then we would not want or need a circle anymore, for then there'd be no ending. =)

Home Made Pastries Anyone?

Exam time is here.

Rational people, although some might be doing so because of not enough time to do so before this, would be crazily mugging through the syllabus.

Mugging uses up a lot of energy.

Energy is replenished by adequate sleep.

And food.

Lots of food.

Easter

If wearer is the person who wears something, and slipper is something you slip on,

then what is Easter?

The thing east of west?

But then it is many other things.

It is a time to remember that Christ rose up from the dead. And this certainly isn't any trivial thing. How many people have you ever known to revive..after being dead for 3 days?! This, together with Jesus' and other prophets' predictions, most certainly assure me of the existence of God. =)

It is also a great day, for it is one of the big events that lead (me) to (you). I thank God for that, and have never regretted.

Plus, it's also a reason to have a whole week of holidays here. =p

Happy Easter people!
